Common Warning Signs

What is the gutter telling you?

A visible symptom can point to a joint, attachment, outlet, downspout or capacity problem. The location and timing of the issue matter.

  • Water leaking at corners or end caps
  • A long run that sags or holds water
  • Gutters pulling away from the fascia
  • Overflow during moderate or heavy rain
  • Downspouts that separate or empty beside the wall
  • Staining on fascia, soffit or exterior walls

Repair or Replace?

The answer depends on the extent of the problem

A practical recommendation considers the surrounding material, attachment, fascia, drainage layout and repair history.

Condition Repair may make sense Replacement may make sense
Leak location One joint, end cap or outlet Several joints fail repeatedly
Attachment A limited number of loose hangers Long runs repeatedly pull away
Material Surrounding aluminum remains straight and sound Widespread warping, corrosion or impact damage
Water flow One outlet or downspout can be corrected Overall layout or capacity is inadequate

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers before requesting an estimate

Are gutters and eavestroughs the same thing?

Yes. “Eavestrough” is common Ontario terminology, while “gutter” is the more familiar general term.

Do you work on residential and commercial properties?

Yes. We work with Brampton homes, low-rise commercial properties, multi-residential buildings and managed property portfolios.

Can a leaking gutter be repaired?

Often, when the leak is isolated and the surrounding gutter and fascia remain sound. Widespread failures may make replacement more practical.

Why do clean gutters overflow?

Slope, outlets, downspouts, roof valleys, guards and system capacity can cause overflow even when debris is not the main issue.

Do gutter guards eliminate maintenance?

No. Guards may reduce debris entry, but surface debris, fine material, outlets and winter conditions still require attention.

How far should downspouts extend?

Brampton recommends extending roof downspouts at least two metres from the foundation and away from neighbouring property, subject to the actual site conditions.
